I think it is a really good idea... Ideas like this one is perfect for microtransaction-funded games because:
1. Some players think "custom" looks for their characters are really cool and would like to pay for it (support the game).
2. It does not ruin the gameplay in ANY way for the non-paying players as it is only changing the visual appearance of the characters.
Other suggestions:
- Santa Claus
- Viking
- Adam/Eve costume (naked)
- Ninja
- Grim reaper
- Bunny costume
The problem is of course that you should still be able to see if characters are wearing armor or not.

Actually there is a custom outfit in shop and it's been there for ages. Can't believe a lot of people wasn't able to notice that. However we've reagganged shop tabs so now it will be more prominent.
