Shotguns secondary weapons?
I think the most underpowered weapon in the game at the moment is the humble shotgun.
1. The shotgun is the only close range weapon that is classed as a primary weapon.
2. In a shotgun vs melee encounter the melee wins 90 percent of the time.
3. The perk line for shotguns is very weak for a primary weapon. The 1 movement ap 1 normal ap is vastly different to 2 normal ap from say smg.
4. The area effect of the shotgun rarely catches 2 or more units making it almost pointless.

UNDERPOWERED ?
omg .. 🙄
m4 -> 3 shots = 150+ damage .. certain damage, almost no scratch ..
Though i have to agree that the status effects from melee make it waaay more appealing , also only 3ap for melee is cool , but you have to get the whole shotgun point , it can fire from 2 or 3 squares away , melee is point blank 😉

yes if its point blank. plus 150 is not gonna kill a unit, when u can use m4 most players have 200+ hp if that unit is skilled in melee u will be lucky 2 have 1 shot next turn. Plus melee is a secondary skill....

WOW... haven't you seen how devastating a Benelli M3 is in close quarters against low levels? Shotguns are NOT underpowered... they're one of the best weapon classes! I don't know where you got the melee vs. shotgun statistic, but I can tell you that's not even close to reality.
It's more like who comes out with the CQB weapon first, or whoever crits more, wins

It's more like who comes out with the CQB weapon first, or whoever crits more, wins most of these encounters for me happen in buildings and the shotgun almost never wins i take my shots then get stunned to death.. CQB????
have u ever had the disarm perk used on u thats 3ap to pickup and re equip ur weapon
yes if u crit u stand a chance this is where my 10 percent wins come from
so does this really make it a primary weapon.
plus i rarely play low levs my games are against level 20+ players

one other point. In 10 mega battles i got 2 use my shotguns twice most of the time i no longer bring them as other gear is more useful so i have x amount of perks and skills going to waste.

Oh really? Don't forget that you need extra 4 perks to compensate weight loss from SMG perks.
Overall I don't think that shotgun is underpowered. Maybe a tiny bit. Underused? - yes. Underpowered? - no.

Overall I don't think that shotgun is underpowered. Maybe a tiny bit. Undefused? - yes. Underpowered? - no. did u mean underused if so yes this is sort of my point, at low lev the shotgun was very usefull more 1v1 and 2v2 and i had a lot of use out of them but at high levs u bring a unit out in to sight to take your shots with a shotgun the snipers and mg4/rpgs rip u to bits so really it is a secondary weapon used as a backup for close quarters or shooting through bushes. Im not trying to make a big deal out of this i`ve just seen there usefullness fade as i have gone up in levs which makes me think of respeccing but the cost of that is way 2 high now my skills and perks are so high. I am almost at neostead and im wondering if there worth the skill points. 5ap per shot and less than 50 dmg at full range seems no point as it will only be any real use at 1-3 cells. 50 dmg after armor and stuff aint gonna cut it against 300 hp.

I am using Jackhammer on Ice Valley and love it. The problem is not with shotguns, but with maps like Memorial Boulevard which is sniper's map. Play on Ice Valley or Lost Beach and then judge shotguns.

I have a question, and I would REALLY like an honest answer from those who know...
Is the shotgun damage different from 1 range and 2 range? Or are the damage ranges broken down in sets like (range 1-3) and (range 4-6) so the only difference in damage is the 3 to 4 range...
This question also applies to the assault line with flip flop ranges...

On level 27 you can use Neostead which is basically the same as Jackhammer. On Ica Valley I use Jackhammer as primary weapon along with grenades. Rest is put to medikits. Shotgun damage range calculated same way as assault rifle.
